Common Name:
Cicadas, Grass Hoppers, Crickets.
Description: Varying in size and
color from Bright green to black, up to #6 Hook size. Blown onto water in
mid summer, more prelevant on hot days. All have large clear wings folded
over back. Tend to be large and bulky and float low in the water. Most
grass hoppers are found above 600m in the South Island. The most common is
the mountain grasshopper (Sigaus australis) which can vary from green to
brown in colour. |
